Silver Kangaroo Cup & Cover J S Hunt London 1862
A fine hallmarked silver Kangaroo cup and cover, dated London 1862, on its original marble base, stamped with the assay marks and sponsors mark for John Samuel Hunt, of Hunt & Roskell, late Storr and Mortimer. The detachable kangaroo finial, which is also marked, sits upon what I assume is an Emu egg form cup with frilled border and original gilt interior above a variegated marble base. Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, with only minor age related wear ( more specifically a small dent to one side of the column support), it contains 233 grams of weighable silver and overall measures 20.5cm tall with the cup 12cm by 8.8cm. It is a lovely rare piece, particularly so with the wonderfully lifelike Kangaroo finial, made by a leading Victorian silversmith. The price includes UK postage, please contact me for overseas rates.
