Large Arts & Crafts Fivemiletown Jardiniere Planter
A wonderful large Arts & Crafts brass twin handle planter, dating to circa 1900-1910, and produced at Fivemiletown in Ireland. Probably a piece designed by John or Mary Williams it is beautifully decorated with stylised dolphins, flower heads, foliage and a lapping wave at the bottom. A similar jardiniere, without the lapping wavelets to top and bottom, can be seen in the last period photo of Fivemiletown pieces kindly emailed to me by a grandson of one of the workers. The design is crisp and detailed and the colour is good overall. There is a repaired horizontal split at the edge of the base where the steel wire has expanded in the past, but not really noticeable. It is a very generous size at 23.5cm tall and 30cm diameter, and measures 49cm handle to handle. The price includes UK postage.
